ABOUT ME

I’m Amber-Rae, a sustainable fashion designer who creates meaningful garments rooted in my heritage and personal values. My work focuses on thoughtful, ethically driven design, beginning with a rich foundation of research that guides me throughout every stage of the creative process. Storytelling is a crucial part of my designs. I enjoy working with upcycled materials, industry waste, alternative fabrications and decorative elements, and transparency is central to my practice. I document my process to show the ethical and thoughtful decisions behind my work, as I believe the value in a garment comes from what went into creating it. I’m constantly exploring new and innovative ways to create sustainably while honouring both craft and conscience.

Education

BA (Hons) Sustainble Fashion

2015-2017

University Of Chichester

From my degree, I have developed and continue to develop a strong sustainability-led approach to fashion design, strengthening creative and problem-solving skills through hands-on, research-driven practice. The course has enhanced my organisation and time-management abilities through working to deadlines, while developing critical thinking, decision-making and innovation skills. I have gained extensive experience in multipurpose and collaborative design, including zero-waste, alternative fabrications and upcycling projects. Worked alongside external companies and industry partners, developed confidence in collaborative working and professional communication. This degree has strengthened my ability to tell meaningful stories through design and encouraged ongoing self-reflection and receptiveness to feedback.

Creative Strategy

My creative practice is shaped by my sustainable values, specifically in transparency and storytelling. Sustainability is central to my work through approaches such as remaking, repair, reuse, and material-led design to challenge the traditional linear fashion model. Transparency is important to me as a way of making my process visible and allowing the research, making, and process behind a garment to be shared honestly and reflectively. Central to my beliefs is that transparency and storytelling are what add value to garments, as they give context and meaning to my work.
